The Best New People: vocational internship
As part of a long and trusted partnership with Deakin University, Dixon offers vocational internships to psychology students once or twice a year. The following was written by Dixon’s most recent intern, Kelly.
I have always been interested in the business side of psychology. When I discovered the opportunity to complete an internship at leading recruitment agency Dixon Appointments in Melbourne, I was thrilled to become part of the team.
Vocational internships take place during the final year of the psychology degree at Deakin University. I interned with Dixon’s CX team where I performed various administration and customer service duties.
Although there were lots of new concepts and operations to get my head around, there were detailed instructions for every procedure.
The training and mentoring I received was exceptional. Everyone made sure I felt comfortable asking for help and their endless encouragement, energy and humour really made me feel like I was a part of the Dixon family from the very first day.
It was apparent that Dixon puts in substantial effort to ensure a consistent, inclusive and satisfactory experience for all team members, candidates, and clients.
I have learnt so much about recruitment and effective customer service throughout this internship and it has also facilitated the development of various soft skills. Most importantly, my experience working in the office has enabled me to appreciate the value of teamwork.
The collective successes and achievements of candidates, clients and colleagues are celebrated together, but what really stuck with me was that when problems arose everyone chipped in to assist and discuss potential solutions to ensure effective resolution of issues.
Team meetings were also regularly held to revise current procedures and prevent future complications. The way team members collaborated with each other, and treated their candidates and clients with genuine care and thought was inspiring.
As part of my internship I was invited to volunteer in the community with my colleagues. It was a great opportunity to bond with the team while giving back to the community.
All in all, I can confidently say that Dixon Appointments has the very environment to stimulate continuous learning and development for employees – without losing the fun!
