The Best New People: vocational internship – Faith

I decided to enrol in a unit for my psychology degree that would give me some first-hand experience in a relevant industry. I was looking to gain experience in an HR setting as I am studying organisational psychology, and I had no previous experience in a corporate role. I was intrigued by the idea of interning at a recruitment agency, so I applied to Dixon Appointments, and they ended up being the best place for me to complete my internship.

I was very nervous coming into my interview, but Sue and Ange’s warmth and hospitality eased my nerves straight away. Throughout my time at Dixon, the whole team made me feel welcome and comfortable to ask for help. While the number of new tasks to learn was somewhat overwhelming at first, the guidance and patience of the team allowed me to focus on learning without feeling pressured.

The culture at Dixon was a pleasure to work in. Regular team get-togethers allowed me to quickly get to know everyone and see how close they are as a team. They are very hard-working and have shown me what true professionalism and teamwork looks like and can achieve. They bounce ideas off one another, solve problems together, and really do care about the clients and candidates.

My experience at Dixon has taught me many valuable skills that set me up for a future career in HR, as well as general skills needed in the corporate world, such as data analysis, administration tasks, and professional communication. The opportunity to communicate directly with candidates has strengthened my customer service, confidence, and professional communication.

I have learnt so much about the recruitment process – seeing how everything happens behind the scenes of a recruitment agency has strengthened my knowledge of the industry and solidified my decision to pursue a career in a similar field. I am very grateful to Dixon for welcoming me in and giving me the opportunity to grow my skills and knowledge, helping me jumpstart my professional career!
